September 15

8:30-10:30 – Arson and Insurance Investigations with Jessica Davis of Erie Insurance

Jessica is a member of the Indiana Chapter of the IASIU and the Indiana Chapter of the IAAI.  She is an SIU Investigator with Erie Insurance and has significant experience investigating suspicious insurance claims, especially those involving arson.  She will share her knowledge of arson and insurance fraud with the attendees.

10:30-12:30 – Blindsided at Home – A Fraud Examiners Personal Encounter with HOA Fraud with Chris Knight, a forensic accountant and educator

Chris brings over 20 years of experience as a forensic accountant. He teaches forensic accounting and fraud examination at Butler University and Indiana University. In this session, attendees will explore the twists and turns of a real-life HOA fraud case that took place in Chris’ own neighborhood. the session will be interactive, encouraging participants to share insights and learn from one another.

1:30-4:30 – Cell Phone Forensics with Jeff Sawyer of Leverage Investigations

Jeff owns Leverage Investigations and specializes in cell phone, car and electronic forensic investigations. He will share information about the way electronic forensics can aid fraud examiners in the investigation of fraud. His presentation will include digital forensics from CCTV, vehicle infotainment devices, cell tower records, phones and other electronic means.

September 16

8:30-11:30 – Arson Investigations with Brian Millard of Lily Fire and Rescue

Brian is a Certified Evidence Collection Technician, Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator and Certified Fire Investigator Instructor. He was a member of Indiana Task Force 1 for 17 years and has over 30 years of experience in the fire service. Since retiring from the Lawrence Fire Department in 2019, Brian has served as a Captain with the Lily Fire and Rescue department in Indianapolis.

1:00-2:00 – Desktop and Field Investigations with Michael Talbot of Ethos Risk Services

Michael will provide a primer on desktop and field investigations and the way fraud examiners can utilize the resources of vendors to enhance their investigations. Michael serves as a Regional Account Manager for Ethos, where he leverages investigative and operational experience to deliver strategic risk management solutions. He covers the Great Lakes Region for Ethos and lives in Florida. He completed an undergraduate degree in Criminology and Criminal Studies with a minor in Accounting.

2:00-3:00 – Medical Management as an Investigative Tool with Renee Aquiare of Ethos Investigations

Renee is with Ethos Investigations and specializes in medical investigations. She will share the way medical management can be used to help enhances investigations and potentially identify evidence of fraud to further investigations.

3:30-4:30 – Effective Anti-Fraud Training Programs with Brian Herbert of Group 1001

Brian is the Director of Operational Fraud and Risk Analysis at Group 1001. Part of his responsibilities are to manage the company’s anti-fraud training program to help train employees to detect, prevent and report suspicious activity. Brian has an undergraduate degree in education and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. He served previously in law enforcement and has over 18 years of experience now in the private sector conducting fraud investigations. Brian has spoken nationally and regionally at conferences on the topic of quality, role specific anti-fraud training to help improve the detection and prevention of fraud.
